{"id":7940,"date":"2016-11-16T16:53:25","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T21:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.229.122.34\/en\/?page_id=7940"},"modified":"2021-08-11T11:08:59","modified_gmt":"2021-08-11T15:08:59","slug":"meeting-my-surgeon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/clinical-services\/my-surgery\/meeting-my-surgeon\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting my Surgeon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At this point, you have been referred by your doctor to see a surgeon.\u00a0Your surgeon will decide if you need surgery and then both of you will decide together what the next steps will be.<\/p>\n<h2>How can I prepare before meeting my surgeon?<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignright\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 15px;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/MeetingMySurgeryWeb.jpg\" alt=\"meeting my surgery\" width=\"295\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your surgeon will want to know about your health and the medications you are taking.<\/li>\n<li>Please complete this <a href=\"\/en\/documents\/2021\/08\/pre-op-patient-health-history-questionnaire.pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pre-op Patient Health History Questionnaire<\/a> to the best of your ability and bring it with you when you visit your surgeon even if you are not sure you need surgery.<\/li>\n<li>Write down any important questions you want to ask your surgeon so you do not forget.<\/li>\n<li>Bring a paper and pen to write down important information given to you by your surgeon and team.<\/li>\n<li>Bring someone with you if you need special assistance or just want someone to attend the visit with you (only 1 person since space is limited).<\/li>\n<li>Follow all the instructions given to you by your surgeon\u2019s office\/clinic team.<\/li>\n<li>Bring a book or something to read in case your appointment is unexpectedly delayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What happens when I will need surgery?<\/h2>\n<p>Once a decision is made (by you and your surgeon) that you will have surgery, your surgeon will want you to complete some important forms.<\/p>\n<h2>What forms will I need to complete when I need surgery?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>If the <a href=\"\/en\/documents\/2017\/01\/nur-71-c-eng-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pre-op Patient Health History Questionnaire<\/a> is not completed before your visit, you will be asked to complete it at the surgeon&#8217;s office or clinic.<\/li>\n<li>You will be asked to sign a Consent form for surgery. This form will be explained to you in more detail by your surgeon.<\/li>\n<li>Other forms may be required to be completed and signed at this visit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do I to prepare for my Surgery?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Once all your questions about surgery have been answered, all important forms and special tests have been completed, your surgeon will schedule you for a Pre-Admission Unit appointment at The Ottawa Hospital.<\/li>\n<li>To prepare for this important appointment, please read the <a href=\"\/en\/documents\/2017\/01\/pau-27-english-oct-2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my Surgery Pre-Admission Unit Patient Education booklet<\/a> (maps included)<\/li>\n<li>You and (your family) should also know about important policies before coming to the hospital, such as <a href=\"\/en\/patients-visitors\/visiting-the-hospital\/\">hand washing, visiting hours and guidelines, smoking policy, scent-free and violence in the workplace.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Your surgical team will want to know that you have <a href=\"\/en\/clinical-services\/my-surgery\/preparing-now-for-going-home\/\">prepared for going home<\/a> and that you have made the necessary arrangements before the day of your surgery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At this point, you have been referred by your doctor to see a surgeon.\u00a0Your surgeon will decide if you need surgery and then both of you will decide together what the next steps will be.
