{"id":7314,"date":"2016-11-15T13:09:55","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T18:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.229.122.34\/en\/?page_id=7314"},"modified":"2019-01-24T12:36:31","modified_gmt":"2019-01-24T17:36:31","slug":"education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/our-model-of-care\/our-health-care-professional-team\/nursing\/education\/","title":{"rendered":"Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nursing Education at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) promotes and facilitates a culture of life-long learning in the pursuit of excellence in professional nursing practice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nurseone.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignleft\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/nurseone_e.jpg\" alt=\"Nurse One\" width=\"140\" height=\"36\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oarn.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/oarnlogosmall2.png\" alt=\"OARN\" width=\"99\" height=\"50\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The culture of life-long learning is promoted through a commitment to the following education initiatives.<\/p>\n<h2>Orientation<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Upon hire, new employees attend a one-day Human Resources global introduction to TOH.<\/li>\n<li>Orientation continues with a core six-day introduction of senior staff, professional practice support, and common corporate clinical programs, after which the nurse receives unit-specific clinical instruction based on identified competencies.<\/li>\n<li>Each unit has an assigned nurse educator responsible for unit orientation and continuous learning opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Continuing Education &#8211; Multiple Day Programs<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Registration Deadline<\/strong>: 1 week prior to the course date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\">\n<table class=\"table-bordered table\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Education Days<\/h3>\n<p>These education days provide nurses with the knowledge and skills to support high-quality evidence-based care. The content in the days includes current topics in both professional development and clinical specialties. Experts present the latest advances and emerging therapies in a variety of clinical specialties including Gerontology, Mental Health, Nephrology, Pain Management, Diabetes, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Skin Care Workshops and Trauma. Professional Development topics include Nursing Research and Preceptorship\/Mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>Attendance qualifies as part of your College of Nurses Learning Plan.<\/p>\n<p>TOH Nursing Education Days are open to all health-care professionals in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Please register online here: <a title=\"https:\/\/app.fluidsurveys.com\/surveys\/robin-T\/education-day-2\/\" href=\"https:\/\/nppdtoh.wufoo.eu\/forms\/qagdbmw0js4e9l\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nursing Education Day Registration<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Program<\/strong>: Education Days not being offered until the Fall of 2019.<br \/>\n<strong>Fees &#8211; Internal<\/strong> TOH Nursing Staff: No Charge<br \/>\n<strong>Fees &#8211; External<\/strong> $60 per day. Please mail <a href=\"\/en\/documents\/2017\/01\/ed-day-registration-payment-form-ef-aug-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">printable form<\/a> with payment at least 1 week prior the Education Day. OTN Videoconferencing is available for some of the Education Days offered. $300.00 Flat rate fee per site for video conferencing.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Financial Assistance for Continuing Education<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Professional leave<\/strong> of up to 15 hours annually may be granted to full and regular part-time staff; casual employees are considered on an individual basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conferences, workshops, seminars: <\/strong>Applications to attend these events are reviewed monthly and must be received before the conference. Priority is given to those persons presenting at a conference. The monetary guidelines are to a maximum of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$250.00 within a 500-kilometer radius of Ottawa<\/li>\n<li>$500.00 beyond a 500-kilometer radius<\/li>\n<li>$750.00 for international conferences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Clinical Certification funding<\/strong> is approved prior to writing the spring examinations and on passing; 50% of the Canadian Nurses Association fee will be reimbursed for both certification and recertification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bursaries<\/strong> are awarded to nurses for post-RN Baccalaureate or Masters Degree on a review of a detailed application form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuition payback<\/strong> for university and community college courses leading to a degree or certificate is awarded three times a year at the end of fall, spring and summer semesters on proof of successful completion of the course.
