Within this team, the Occupational Therapist focuses on the patient&#8217;s living environment and assesses skills related to the patient&#8217;s daily routine. The areas assessed include memory, self-care and home management abilities. The goal is to assist each patient in achieving and maintaining his or her greatest level of independence.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/cognitvepillsortWEB.jpg\" alt=\"Cognitive Pill Sort\" width=\"640\" height=\"457\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Mental Health<\/h2>\n<p>Occupational Therapists at the Civic and General campuses work within a multidisciplinary team setting to develop and promote life skills and coping strategies in persons with mental health challenges who are living in the community.\u00a0 Assessments and interventions are provided through individual and group therapy. Clients seen may be struggling with mood, personality and psychotic or adjustment disorders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outpatient and Day Hospital services provided by the Occupational Therapists include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Psycho-educational groups<\/li>\n<li>Cognitive-behavioural therapy<\/li>\n<li>Goal setting<\/li>\n<li>Assertiveness<\/li>\n<li>Stress management skills training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/mentalhealthgroupemptyWeb.jpg\" alt=\"Mentla Health Group Empty\" width=\"478\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Rehabilitation Centre<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/OTpamphlet2012practicingtubtransferWEB.jpg\" alt=\"Occupational Therapy Pamphlet Practicing Tub Transfer\" width=\"314\" height=\"235\" \/>Occupational Therapy services are provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis at <a href=\"\/en\/clinical-services\/deptpgrmcs\/departments\/rehabilitation-centre\/\">The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Center<\/a>.\u00a0 Patients who have orthopedic, neurological, respiratory, cognitive and behavioural disorders are treated and services are directed toward the prevention and alleviation of dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Therapy is provided to relieve pain, strengthen muscles, improve joint mobility and range of motion, to enhance cognitive-thinking skills and to improve overall function in order to allow the individual to engage in all those daily activities that are important to him or her.<\/p>\n<h2>Hand Therapy<\/h2>\n<p>Outpatient Occupational Therapy services are located at the <a href=\"\/en\/clinical-services\/deptpgrmcs\/clinics-and-services\/occupational-therapy-clinic-riverside-campus\/\">Riverside Campus<\/a> where treatment is provided following an acute hand injury or surgery. The focus of treatment is on the prevention of dysfunction and restoration of hand function<\/p>\n<p>The types of hand injuries typically seen include: fractures, sprains \/ strains, amputations, tendon lacerations and burns. Post-operative patients include those with joint replacements and contractures\/tendon release surgeries.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/OutPatientServices1.jpg\" alt=\"Out Patient Services\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" \/>The Occupational Therapists at the Riverside Campus Outpatient Clinic may use waxing, fluidotherapy, exercise and splinting to assist in the treatment of hand injuries.
