PES is a specialized service for assessing individuals deemed to be suffering from a psychiatric illness and who are in crisis. \u00a0Most individuals are referred from the Emergency physicians, although a protocol exists to \u2018fast-track\u2019 individuals known to TOH and who have no overriding medical problems. \u00a0PES is located within the Emergency Department at each of the Civic and General campuses.\u00a0 The area dedicated for PES is a relatively small, secure unit that offers low stimulation and features to minimize risks to patients and staff (e.g. closed circuit TV, panic alarms).\u00a0 Patients who are seen in PES are assessed by a multidisciplinary team and once each patient\u2019s needs are determined, individuals requiring additional mental health services will be referred to the appropriate program as required: \u00a0Inpatient Services, Outpatient Services, Urgent Consultation Clinic, and other specialty clinics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
