The goals of treatment are not only to control your seizures, but also to help you and your family cope with the day-to-day challenges of this condition so that you become empowered to elevate your overall quality of life.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion\" class=\"panel-group\">\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" href=\"#collapse1\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Epileptologists<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse1\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<ul>\n<li>An epileptologist is a neurologist who has specialized training and experience in the management of epilepsy.<\/li>\n<li>Epileptologists at The Ottawa Hospital have clinical expertise in EEG interpretation, diagnosing epilepsy, and creating various treatment plans (including medications, ketogenic diet, and epilepsy surgery)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Dr. Tadeu A. Fantaneanu<\/strong>, also known as Dr. Tad to his patients, is an assistant professor with the University of Ottawa and a clinician teacher and neurologist within the Department of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate medical education at McGill University (2009) and adult neurology residency at the University of Ottawa (2014). He subsequently completed fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology (2015) and Advanced Epilepsy (2016) at the Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. During this time, he also completed the Program in Clinical Effectiveness through the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Tad is working to establish a comprehensive epilepsy program in Ottawa, Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tad is currently the program director of The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s Adult Epilepsy Program and EEG laboratory, and director of the EEG fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>His areas of interest include transitional care in epilepsy, critical care EEG monitoring, pharmacoresistant and surgical epilepsy, epilepsy and women\u2019s health as well as medical education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Arezoo Rezazadeh<\/strong> is a neurologist and epilepsy specialist who has pursued clinical research in the field of epilepsy and epilepsy genetics. She was born and raised in Iran, where she graduated from the medical school of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Then, she completed her Neurology residency at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Subsequently, she practiced as a board-certified neurologist in Iran after which she moved to Canada and completed a research and clinical fellowship in Epilepsy and Epilepsy Genetics at the University of Toronto in 2018. She holds a CSCN (Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists) certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rezazadeh has special interests in genetic epilepsy, women with epilepsy and intractable epilepsy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Rajendra Kale<\/strong> is an epilepsy specialist in our nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" href=\"#collapse2\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Clinical neuropsychologists<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<ul>\n<li>A clinical neuropsychologist has specialized training in understanding the relationship between the brain and behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>Our neuropsychologist provides a comprehensive assessment of your thinking skills (e.g., intelligence, attention, learning, memory, language, visual-spatial skills, fine motor skills) and academic skills, as well as an examination of your behaviour, emotions, and social skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Dr. Bryce Mulligan<\/strong>, CPsych, is a neuropsychologist and clinical\/rehabilitation psychologist at The Ottawa Hospital. Bryce obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Victoria and completed a residency in clinical neuropsychology at The Ottawa Hospital (2017). Prior to this, Bryce obtained a BSc and MSc in behavioural neuroscience at Laurentian University. Bryce is passionate about maximizing the quality of life and autonomy of the patients with whom he works; about basic and applied research; and about the teaching and supervision of trainees. His clinical interests include surgical neuropsychology, rehabilitation for patients with brain injury or neurological disorder, and emerging areas of assessment and intervention such as computerized and remote cognitive testing, biofeedback, and electromagnetic stimulation therapies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" href=\"#collapse3\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Epilepsy clinic nurses<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse3\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<ul>\n<li>The nursing staff have expertise in the management and long-term health effects of epilepsy.<\/li>\n<li>They actively participate in your care and are part of your epilepsy team by acting as a liaison between you and your epilepsy team members.<\/li>\n<li>They identify your health needs and provide information and education about new diagnosis, seizure medication management, and the plan of care within the Epilepsy Clinic.<\/li>\n<li>They also partner with community agencies to assist in addressing your relevant needs in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sabrina Chang<\/strong> shares a dual role in the epilepsy clinic and the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). She triages EMU referrals as well as coordinates and prepares patients for their EMU admissions. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Ottawa in 2010 and has been working at The Ottawa Hospital since June 2010. After working on a medicine floor for three years, Sabrina returned to school to pursue a Master\u2019s degree. After graduating again in 2015, Sabrina started her journey in the C2 Neurosciences Clinic with the Epilepsy Program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shani Spooner<\/strong> is a registered nurse with more than 25 years of experience in neuroscience.
