Please ensure you continue to follow public health recommendations to help keep you, your loved ones and our community safe.<\/p>\n<p>If you have been instructed to quarantine by public health officials or in accordance with federal travel guidelines, please do not visit The Ottawa Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>If you are experiencing escalating COVID or cold and flu symptoms, you can book an appointment at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawapublichealth.ca\/en\/shared-content\/assessment-centres.aspx#:~:text=COVID%2D19%20CHEO%20Assessment%20Centre%20%2D%20401%20Smyth%20Road%2C%20Ottawa&amp;text=For%20a%20Do%2DIt%2DYourself,available%20for%20adults%20through%20CHEO.\">COVID-19 Assessment Centre<\/a> near you. Do not go to the Emergency Department unless you have a medical emergency.<\/p>\n<p>If you are having a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency department or call 911.<\/p>\n<h2>Visiting the hospital<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The Ottawa Hospital is currently allowing visitors, in accordance with\u00a0our Visitors and Family Presence policy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This policy encourages patients, families and care teams to determine how many people should be present at any time.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion\" class=\"panel-group\">\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse2\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Do I have to schedule my visit with an inpatient before I come?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>No.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse4\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">What are The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s visiting hours?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse4\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>There are no defined visiting hours as part of this policy, and loved ones are welcome to visit patients at The Ottawa Hospital at times that work best for patients in collaboration with care teams.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse5\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Can I accompany a patient to their outpatient appointment?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse5\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Yes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse6\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Do patients, Essential Care Partners and visitors need to wear a mask in the hospital?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse6\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Masks are optional throughout the hospital, but required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are patient coming for an appointment, and you are symptomatic or instructed to wear a mask as a result of screening.<\/li>\n<li>In patient rooms, as needed based on individual patient precautions.<\/li>\n<li>On units where there is an outbreak of a respiratory illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You are also welcome to wear a mask throughout your time at the hospital, if that is what you prefer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse7\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">What is an Essential Care Partner?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse7\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Essential Care Partners and social visitors are not the same. An Essential Care Partner is a support person whose presence is considered essential to the safety and wellbeing of a patient while they are in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/patients-visitors\/essential-care-partners\/\">Essential Care Partner Program<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse9\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Can I visit a patient on a unit experiencing an outbreak? <\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse9\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>While a unit is experiencing an outbreak, there may be increased precautions on that unit to ensure the safety of patients, staff and Essential Care Partners. Before visiting a unit experiencing an outbreak at The Ottawa Hospital, visitors are advised to consult with unit staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse10\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Can I visit a patient who has just given birth in the hospital?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse10\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>Yes, provided the patient has consented to visitors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel panel-default\">\n<div class=\"panel-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"panel-title\"><a href=\"#collapse11\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Can children visit patients in the hospital?<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse11\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"panel-body\">\n<p>If you would like to bring a child to visit someone in the hospital, please talk to the patient and their care team in advance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\n\n\n<h2>The Ottawa Hospital\u00a0has open visiting hours<\/h2>\n\n\nWe encourage you to visit your loved one because we\u00a0know that having family and friends nearby helps reduce anxiety and isolation and improves healing and recovery for our patients. Patients and their families are an important part of our care team.\n\nOur nurses will discuss our visitor policy with the patient and determine one or two key contacts. When you are planning to visit the hospital, please discuss your visit with the key contact(s) to ensure that your loved one is feeling up to having visitors, and to coordinate with other visitors so that their room is not crowded.\n\nThe hospital has quiet hours from <strong>10 p.m. to 6 a.m. <\/strong>If you plan to visit your loved one during these hours, please try to discuss in advance with your loved one's key contact(s) and notify the care team so that they are expecting you. We ask that you help us maintain a quiet, restful environment. Our staff will also take care to be as quiet as possible during these times.\n\nFamily may be asked to wait in the waiting area while the care team provides care. However, sometimes family may ask or be asked to stay so they can better understand the care needed for their loved one after discharge.\n\nSometimes, we may need to restrict the length of visits or the number of visitors to protect patients with weak immune systems, prevent the spread of infections from one unit to another, allow for treatment, or ensure safety.\u00a0 If your loved one is on a mental health unit, please talk to their doctor or care team about their treatment plan before visiting during hospital quiet hours (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.), since there may be additional restrictions.\n\nChildren under 14 years old are welcome in most areas of the hospital but must be directly supervised by an adult who is not the patient.
