{"id":44937,"date":"2019-04-08T16:45:12","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T20:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/?page_id=44937"},"modified":"2019-07-11T11:01:02","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T15:01:02","slug":"inpatient-rehabilitation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/our-model-of-care\/our-health-care-professional-team\/physiotherapy\/inpatient-rehabilitation\/","title":{"rendered":"Inpatient Rehabilitation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Patients\nwho need more physiotherapy services prior to returning home may be referred to\nan inpatient rehabilitation program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A referral is needed in order to be assessed for\nadmission to the most appropriate rehabilitation program available in the\nOttawa region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nOttawa Hospital offers some rehabilitation services at The Ottawa Hospital\nRehabilitation Centre (TOHRC), located at 505 Smyth Road on the General campus.\nPatients may be referred to TOHRC depending on their specific needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (Tohrc)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients who require an intensive but longer\nrehabilitation stay may be referred to TOHRC. Our physiotherapy staff are\nmembers of an interdisciplinary team providing care to patients on one of four\nrehabilitation streams: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Locomotor<\/li><li>Neuromuscular<\/li><li>Neurocognitive <\/li><li>Outpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation Service<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients admitted for rehabilitation at TOHRC\nmay have undergone amputation, have chronic lung disease, complex orthopedic\ninjuries, burns, neurological disease\/ injury (such as spinal cord injury, stroke,\nor multiple sclerosis) and acquired\/traumatic brain injury. More information about TOHRC can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/clinical-services\/deptpgrmcs\/departments\/rehabilitation-centre\/\">The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre <\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A referral is required to\nbe assessed and to enter the various treatment programs.&nbsp; Each patient awaiting inpatient admission\nundergoes an assessment by a rehabilitation clinician or physician (a <em>physiatrist<\/em>) to determine if the unit\ncan help with their specific needs and attainment of rehabilitation goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Short-Term Therapy Unit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Short-Term Therapy Unit (STTU) is an in-patient rehabilitation\nservice that focuses on the assessment and treatment of patients who require\nintensive, short-term (three weeks or less) rehabilitation, either following surgery\nor an illness to&nbsp;improve their day-to-day independence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients are referred to the Rehabilitation programs by the physician\/medical\nteam from the acute care unit. Each referred patient undergoes an assessment by\na highly trained rehabilitation clinician from the discharge triage team, to\ndetermine if the STTU can help with their needs and attainment of\nrehabilitation goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Short-Term Therapy Unit\nis located at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patients who need more physiotherapy services prior to returning home may be referred to an inpatient rehabilitation program.
