{"id":186,"date":"2015-09-29T11:48:32","date_gmt":"2015-09-29T15:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toh.masm.ca\/en\/?page_id=186"},"modified":"2025-12-12T09:47:51","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T14:47:51","slug":"accessibility","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/patients-visitors\/accessibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ottawa Hospital is committed to providing everyone with the same opportunity to access and to benefit from hospital services by identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to support accessible and inclusive care and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessing The Ottawa Hospital Campuses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospital provides accessible parking, accessible entrances, wheelchairs, and elevators at each of our campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each campus map shows accessible entrances and elevators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/documents\/2024\/02\/civic-campus-map-patient.pdf\/\">View Civic Campus map<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/documents\/2017\/01\/generalcampusoverhead_oct2012.pdf\">View General Campus map<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/documents\/2024\/02\/riverside-site-map-en.pdf\">View Riverside Campus map<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessible Parking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All patient and visitor parking lots and meters have accessible parking spaces. Parking rates for accessible spaces are the same as other parking spaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To pay for your parking, use the ticket that you received at the gate to pay inside the main campus building at one of the pay machines. These are located at the main entrances. You can also pay at the exit gate with a credit or debit card.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More information on parking can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/patients-visitors\/directions-maps\/parking\/\">Parking page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessible Entrances<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All main entrances are accessible and have automatic door openers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wheelchairs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wheelchairs are typically available and located at the main entrance of all campuses and in the emergency departments of the General and Civic campuses. If you don\u2019t see any, visit the <a href=\"#info\">Volunteer Information desk<\/a>; they will help get more wheelchairs to these locations. Phones are also near the Information Desks so patients and families can call a porter if no one is there to assist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessible Washrooms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accessible washrooms are available at all campuses. All accessible washrooms have signs indicating they are accessible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessibility Supports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"info\">Information desks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We have Volunteers available at each of our main entrances to provide information and assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteers are normally available Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in person or on an interactive screen at the information desks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interpretation services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spoken language and sign language (ASL &amp; LSQ) interpretation services are available to support all our services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpretation services are free.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you will need interpretation services for your appointment, please let your care team know as soon as you can so they can book the service.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For more information, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/patients-visitors\/interpretation\/\">Interpretation Services page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal amplifiers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal amplifiers (i.e., Pocket Talkers) are available to use while at The Ottawa Hospital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you need the hospital to provide you with a personal amplifier for your appointment, please let your care team know. They will make the necessary arrangements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To book, staff may contact Telecommunications at x 17797 or via email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:Telecommunications@toh.ca\">Telecommunications@toh.ca<\/a>. After hours they can call Locating at x 14221 \/ x 78222, or patients may bring their own. Some units have purchased their own Pocket-talkers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service Animals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Service animals can accompany people with disabilities in all public areas of the hospital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The owner may be asked to show a letter from a regulated health professional confirming that the animal is a service animal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service animal owners are responsible for their animal&#8217;s care, supervision, and behaviour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There may be limited areas that animals cannot enter due to health and safety protocols.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please let the unit or department know ahead of your scheduled visit if a service animal will accompany you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support Persons<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We welcome support persons who are accompanying a patient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients will be asked to identify the support person who is accompanying them and give permission for the support person to be present and\/or help with discussions involving confidential information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scented Products<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To make our environment welcoming to everyone, the hospital has a scent-free policy: staff, patients and visitors are asked to refrain from using or wearing scented products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notification of Disruption of Services and Access to Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes we experience disruptions at the hospital that affect the availability of our services and access to our facilities (i.e., an accessible entrance is out of service).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will make every effort to post notices in advance of planned disruptions, which can include scheduled maintenance or construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will also make every effort to post a notice at the location of the disruption. This notice will include information on how long the disruption may last, and the nearest alternative service, if one is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The way we provide the notice will be determined by the impact of the disruption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will try to ensure that multiple accessible service disruptions do not happen at the same time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For information on disruptions that are currently affecting access to hospital sites and services, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/\">News and Updates<\/a> section of our main page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Web Accessibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We work to ensure that all information posted on our website is accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find information on this website that you cannot access, please email the web officer at <a href=\"mailto:webofficer@toh.ca\">webofficer@toh.ca<\/a>.
