Pascal Laliberte, Administrative Coordinator, Program Manager, TOHFPP \u2013 AFP Department Business Phone (non clinical): 613-738-8400 x82501 The Ottawa Hospital Department of Family Practice was created in 1998 through the merger of the Departments of Family Medicine of the Riverside, General, Civic, and Grace Hospitals as part of the region-wide restructuring of Ottawa\u2019s hospitals.\u00a0 Our department is comprised of family physicians working in the roles of clinicians, teachers, researchers, and administrators. They work in in-patient care on the Family Medicine Clinical Teaching Units or Transitional Care Units, and in out-patient care at the TOH Academic Family Health Team Units. They also work within other departments providing other services such as consulting care or surgical assisting. Division of Maternal and Newborn Care:<\/strong> Dr. Vanessa Murley, MD, CCFP, Head (Interim), Division of Maternal and Newborn Care, Assistant Professor, University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine<\/p>\n Our family physicians also provide low-risk obstetrics and newborn care services to patients in Ottawa delivering babies both at the Civic and the General Campuses. These family doctors are part of the division under the Department of Family Practice \u2013 the Division of Maternal and Newborn Care.<\/p>\n Out-patient Care:<\/strong> Dr. Taunia Rifai, MD, CCFP, Medical Director, TOH Academic Family Health Team, Civic Campus, Lecturer, University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine The Civic and Riverside Campuses are home to the\u00a0TOH Academic Family Health Team<\/a>. Here, family physicians work with residents, medical students, nurses, and nurse practitioners as well as allied health professionals including dieticians and social workers in a primary care environment that has recently become a Family Health Network.<\/p>\n Patients are seen by appointment during regular office hours as well as extended hours for urgent situations. Patients are also followed through the Civic Emergency and for in-patient admissions.<\/p>\n In-patient Care: We provide 24\/7 care and teaching on the in-patient\u00a0Clinical Teaching Units at the Civic and General Campuses. These units have Family Medicine teams comprised of Family Medicine staff physicians, Family Medicine resident and medical students managing their own patients both assigned and unassigned.<\/p>\n Transitional Care: Dr. Emily Pranger, MD, CFPC, Medical Director, Transitional Care Unit, General Campus Members of the department also provide care for the Transitional Care Units for patients awaiting placement into care out in the community.<\/p>\n The Ottawa Hospital Department of Family Practice is closely affiliated with the University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine residency program both in the community and in the hospital.
