Dr. Chow works his first official Plaster Room clinic after his accident in 2010

Dr Chow

Dr. Donald Chow is a renowned orthopedic surgeon at The Ottawa Hospital, and has been a team doctor with the Ottawa Senators since they were first established in 1992.

On May 3, 2012, Dr. Chow worked his first full clinic in the Plaster Room since his accident in August 2010. His team surprised him with cupcakes and red t-shirts labelled “Team Chow” across the front to demonstrate their support. Spirits were high and hugs were exchanged in the Clinic that day in celebration of Dr. Chow’s incredible accomplishments since his accident.

“I’ve been waiting such a long time to surprise Dr. Chow,” said Suzanne Groulx, Registered Orthopedic Technologist of the plaster room. “He always goes above and beyond for us (the team) and treats everyone with respect. We can’t even describe how happy we are to have him back in the clinic. Just to see him alive and well is a true blessing.”

On a Saturday afternoon in August 2010, Dr. Chow was the on-call emergency doctor who was paged into work at The Ottawa Hospital. Dr. Chow was driving his motorcycle when he collided with a car. Dr. Chow had severe head and chest injuries, and made a remarkable recovery although the odds were against him.

Dr. Chow is a reflection of every person who works in the Plaster Room; compassionate, caring and dedicated to helping patients. The Ottawa Hospital team is grateful to have such a talented physician living the core values of our Hospital every day. Welcome back Dr. Chow!
