A step in the right direction: The Ottawa Hospital shifts focus in community vaccine rollout

The Ottawa Hospital is supporting Ottawa Public Health (opens in a new tab) and the City of Ottawa (opens in a new tab) in opening two new COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Ottawa; one at the Horticulture building at Lansdowne Park, and the other at the Nepean Sportsplex Curling Club. With the majority of staff and high-risk patients now fully vaccinated, the hospital has closed its COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Civic Campus, and redeployed staff to the new clinics, in order to continue supporting the community in the vaccine rollout.

The two new clinics are overseen by Ottawa Public Health and the City of Ottawa, and members of the public can book their appointments through the provincial booking system (opens in a new tab).

“This marks an important shift in the community response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Cameron Love, President and CEO, The Ottawa Hospital. “Staff at The Ottawa Hospital have proudly supported our community throughout the pandemic by caring for COVID-19 patients in hospital, long-term care facilities and at home, operating COVID-19 testing centres, and running the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic. This shift represents an important step forward in our vaccine rollout, as we continue to make progress and protect our community”.

After administering one of the first COVID-19 vaccines in Canada on December 15, 2020, The Ottawa Hospital COVID-19 vaccine clinic has since delivered over 105,000 doses of the vaccine to health-care workers and high-risk patients. Staff at The Ottawa Hospital who have not yet been vaccinated can still receive their COVID-19 vaccine through the hospital.

While new information is always becoming available as the vaccine situation evolves, efforts will now be refocused on continuing the vaccine rollout for the general public, and helping our region get one step closer to community immunity (opens in a new tab).
