Regular exercise and physical activity may help increase your energy levels and elevate your mood as well as reduce fatigue.
The kinesiologist can help you start an exercise program. She is available to help those
- Needing improved cardiovascular health
- Who need to increase muscular strength and endurance
- Who need to maintain/improve joint range of motion (anyone following surgery and radiation)
- Who need to minimize joint pain and stiffness
- Who need to stabilize body composition (decrease body fat, increase lean body/muscle mass) (any patients on hormone therapy)
- With concerns with physical exertion (how much can I do?) (Breast cancer and lymphedema concerns)
You can consult the Step Up to the Challenge: an Exercise Guide Book for Colon Cancer Survivors and the Exercise for Health: An Exercise Guide for Breast Cancer Survivors as well as the Challenging Prostate Cancer: Nutrition, exercise and You to read about the benefits of exercise and to have ideas of how to exercise while you have cancer.
As a registered patient of the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, you can access the gym at the General Campus of the Cancer Centre.
