Assessment & Diagnosis
Most cancers are diagnosed by surgeons with the assistance of pathologists and many other health professionals. A timely and efficient process will not only ensure start of an earlier treatment but reduced anxiety and distress for patients and their loved ones.

Managing Your Treatment
Once cancer has been diagnosed, the next phase of the patient journey is treatment. Cancer treatment may include any combination of surgery, cancer drugs (chemotherapy), and radiation therapy. Patient and family support programs are available to meet individual patient needs for symptom management, information, coping strategies, and other supports.

Support & Follow-up
In addition to the medical treatment of their cancer, patients often have other needs that might include: informational; emotional; spiritual; physical including managing symptoms; and practical including financial, transportation, childcare etc. The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Program has three programs that help patients with these needs including the Psychosocial Program, the Supportive and Palliative Care Program, and the Survivorship Program.
