Becoming a Volunteer
What are the steps to becoming a volunteer?
- Submit a completed Application for Volunteer Service.
- Attend a placement interview with a Volunteer Services staff member to:
- confirm your availability and the level of commitment you are able to make;
- outline your skills and interests;
- review volunteer position opportunities and requirements;
- establish a suitable volunteer placement.
- Attend a general volunteer orientation session.
- Complete specific training for your placement area with an experienced volunteer and/or staff.
Requirements
Commitment -
Most volunteer positions require a time commitment of one shift per week for a minimum period
of four months, however some short-term positions are available.
Confidentiality Agreement -
All volunteers are required to sign The Ottawa Hospital's Confidentiality Agreement and comply with The Ottawa Hospital Confidentiality and Privacy Policy.
Police Reference Check -
Police Records Checks are required by all those applying to volunteer at TOH, high school students excepted.
References -
You will be asked to provide two references.
TB Testing -
Volunteers are required to comply with The Ottawa Hospital's tuberculosis testing policy.
Uniform -
You will be required to wear a uniform and Hospital Photo ID Card while on duty.
