About Volunteer Services


A Volunteer at the Reception/Information DeskThe successful involvement of volunteers within TOH programs and activities is accomplished through the effective management of our volunteer resources.

The Ottawa Hospital's Department of Volunteer Services is mandated to recruit, screen, assign, orient, train, supervise, support and recognize all volunteers in accordance with the standards of practice set forth by the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement.


Statement of Purpose

Volunteer Services creates partnerships within TOH, involving a diverse community of volunteers in the provision of quality support and services for the well-being of our patients.


Principal Functions

Recruit
We seek out motivated, caring and committed individuals.

Interview, Select and Place
We match an individual's interests, skills and availability with the needs of the organization.

Orient and Train
We ensure each volunteer receives orientation and training appropriate to their role in the organization.

Support and Supervise
We collaborate with our partners to ensure volunteers receive the necessary support and supervision in the performance of their duties.

Evaluate and Develop
We continually review and assess, adapting to meet the needs of our partners and patients.

Plan
We continually explore trends and create opportunities.

Recognize
We value the unique contribution of each volunteer.
