StrongWomenTM
Lifestyle Intervention Program

Mission

To improve the health and quality of life for women by assisting them to learn, integrate and sustain healthy lifestyle practices.

Overview

The SEGWHC StrongWomenTM Lifestyle Intervention Program is designed to prevent disease and improve health outcomes for women. It incorporates strength training, health and nutrition education and lifestyle counseling in a medically supervised, small group environment.

The program is accessible to women of all ages currently experiencing, or identified as having risk factors for diseases such as:

  • arthritis
  • cardiovascular disease
  • depression
  • diabetes
  • hypertension
  • metabolic and endocrine disorders
  • osteoporosis

The strength training component is derived from an evidence-based program designed by Dr. Miriam Nelson from Tufts University, for which the SEGWHC became the first Canadian Satellite in 2005.
