The Ottawa Hospital supports patient and family-centered care.
Family members are an important part of the health care team and contribute to the caring and healing process of the patient.
Wash Your HandsWhen you arrive at any of our three campuses (Civic, General and Riverside), you will see hand-wash
stations set up at each of our entrances. Please stop and wash your hands before entering the hospital.
Visiting Hours and Guidelines
Family and friends are an essential part of a patient’s circle of care. Visiting hours are set to balance this with
health care team’s responsibilities to provide care. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, except in the
Cancer Centre treatment areas where they are not permitted. Visiting Hours and Guidelines
SmokingSmoking is only permitted in the designated areas on each Campus and is prohibited everywhere else on hospital grounds.
Balloons (Mylar only)
A latex allergy is an adverse reaction to products made from latex or natural rubber. We make every effort to provide a
latex safe environment for patients, visitors, employees and volunteers. Only mylar balloons are allowed within the hospital.
Scent-free
Wherever possible, we have eliminated the use of products with scents or other properties that are known to cause health problems for patients, visitors, employees and volunteers.
Please do not wear/use perfume, after-shave or other scented personal products in the hospital or when visiting a patient.
Violence in the Workplace
The Ottawa Hospital will not tolerate violent acts or threats directed at any employee, physician or volunteer.
Security Services will be notified and take the appropriate action.
Interpretation Services
Language interpretation services are available to patients who do not understand either English or French.
Whenever possible, interpretation services can be provided to both inpatients and outpatients. Please contact
the clinical manager for more information.
