The Ages Cancer Assessment Clinic (CAC) is a regional program that provides a comprehensive service to patients, and their families, undergoing assessment and diagnosis for lung, esophageal, colorectal or prostate cancer, and assists health professionals to ensure a coordinated assessment and diagnostic work-up for their patients.
The dedicated team working in the Cancer Assessment Clinic includes surgeons, urologists, a respirologist, respiratory therapists, medical and radiation oncologists, nurses, social workers, radiologists and clerical staff.
Our comprehensive program consists of three components:
- Assessment, diagnostic and supportive care that is provided by a multidisciplinary team in a coordinated and compassionate manner;
- Education for health professionals on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of lung, colorectal and prostate cancers;
- Research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of lung, colorectal and prostate disease, and support of patients and their families
Services include:
- Diagnostic imaging (transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and biopsy);
- Coordination of diagnostic services and presentation of necessary treatment options (assessment by surgeon and a primary nurse);
- Supportive care (information, practical guidance, emotional support, physical care)
