Employees of The Ottawa Hospital are screened for security The announcement of an RCMP arrest of suspected terrorists in Ottawa yesterday generated inquiries about how The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) checks the background of employees.
To ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, TOH requires all employees and volunteers at The Ottawa Hospital to partake in a criminal record check before they start working at TOH.
- Job applicants at TOH undergo a thorough selection process to ensure they can perform their duties to the highest standards of care and safety;
- In addition, prior to a job interview, candidates are told a criminal record check will be required of them if they are successful;
- Candidates bear all the costs of the criminal record check;
- A successful candidate receives only a conditional offer, contingent upon the completion of a criminal record check;
- The candidate must complete the criminal record check, and submit its results to the human resources department before they can begin working at TOH;
- If the check reveals a criminal record, the hospital reviews the record to determine the suitability of the hire;
- Employees and volunteers who fail to advise their supervisor of any change that could negatively impact their criminal record are subject to dismissal from the hospital.

- Use of green cleaning products to reduce staff and patient exposure to harmful vapours and prevent damaging chemicals from entering the sewer system.

With the support of The Ottawa Hospital staff, the Green Team will continue to implement successful environmental initiatives to provide a healthy environment for patients, visitors, staff and the neighbouring community.
