Welcome to Trauma Services
The Ottawa Hospital serves as the regional adult trauma centre for Eastern Ontario.
Trauma Services
is based at the Civic Campus and involves a multidisciplinary trauma team that works together to provide quality care
to injured patients and their families and is compromised of trauma surgeons, physicians, registered nurses, respiratory
therapists and social workers.
Additional team members include physiotherapists, dietitians, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. All healthcare professionals work together with a goal of helping the patient reach their full potential recovery after injury.
Trauma Accreditation
The Ottawa Hospital has been awarded full Tertiary Trauma accreditation from
the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC) for the maximum period of
five years. Our accreditation as a Tertiary Trauma Centre (TTC) is the highest designation by TAC. This voluntary review by
TAC demonstrates The Ottawa Hospital's support for, and commitment to, the provision of care to injured patients in Ottawa and
the region.
A few of the key elements of a Tertiary Trauma Centre include: designation as the regional trauma centre by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care,
being a teaching hospital with a university affiliation, and being a leader in comprehensive clinical care, education, research, data
management as well as injury prevention and control.
Trauma Services staff would to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the trauma accreditation
visit on October 17, 2006 . We would also like to acknowledge all of the staff and physicians – your knowledge and expertise
are key factors to the continued delivery of quality care to injured patients.
