Welcome to our bilingual professional practice environment

Nursing Professional Practice is a dynamic department that has innovative, credible leaders who work with nurses and other partners in a constantly changing complex environment. We promote life-long learning, autonomy, accountability and leadership for nurses in a setting that respects collaboration, risk-taking and professional growth.

Nursing education and nursing research encourage and support integration of new knowledge and scientific endeavour in evidence-based practice. Nursing research is promoted and supported across the campuses.

The Ottawa Hospital has the largest professional nursing staff in Ontario. We are guided by our nursing values and nursing vision which support the hospital vision. We are committed to patient and family-centered care through nursing excellence. Through a system of corporate work groups, reflective groups and committees, clinical nurses have an opportunity to directly influence changes in care delivery. Many nurses are actively engaged in unit-specific, continuous quality improvement projects as well as the clinical pathway project, the falls prevention endeavour and the ulcer prevalence study.
