Peter Magner MD, FRCPC, FRACP: Associate Professor of Medicine and
Head, Division of Nephrology at The Ottawa Hospital
and University of Ottawa. Director of Hemodialysis, Civic Campus, Ottawa
Hospital.
Dr. Magner received his MD from the University of Ottawa, trained in
Internal Medicine in Ottawa and Christ Church, New Zealand. He did his
Nephrology Fellowship in Toronto including a Research Fellowship in Electrolyte
Physiology. In 1988 he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University
of Calgary where he was also Undergraduate Renal Block Chair and received
several teaching awards.
In 1993 he returned to Ottawa where he is heavily involved in Undergraduate
and Postgraduate education as well as CME. He also has a major involvement
in Nephrology administration and the restructuring of Nephrology services
within the amalgamated Ottawa Hospital.
Clinical Interests
Hypertension • Hemodialysis • Acute renal replacement therapy
in ICU • Progressive renal insufficiency
Research Interests
Collaboration in multicentre clinical trials, particularly in hemodialysis
patients.
Educational Interests
Undergraduate and postgraduate education, especially hypertension,
electrolyte physiology and management of acute chronic renal failure,
CME, especially about progressive renal insufficiency and hypertension.
Administrative Interests
Guiding the large Nephrology program on three campuses to achieve
improvements and efficiencies in delivery of nephrologic care.
