A driving force in the world of social work

Diane Manii Diane Manii is a social worker with experience in helping patients affected by cancer deal with the personal and emotional challenges associated with their diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. She was recently recognized by the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) as an Inspirational Leader for her incredible accomplishments, motivation and encouragement of others, and the great qualities she personifies as a leader.

Diane is the Clinical Manager of the Psychosocial Oncology Program at The Ottawa Hospital, Clinical Investigator in Psychosocial Oncology at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, the Ottawa Regional Lead for Psychosocial Oncology and a Research Professor in Social Work at Carleton University. Psychosocial Oncology is a practice that supports patients and families address the non-medical and psychosocial aspects of cancer care.

“We are extremely proud of Diane. It is a significant honour to be recognized as a leader out of the 4,000 members of the OASW. I think Diane has all the qualities and skills that make up a great leader and mentor,” said Karen Nelson, Chief of Social Work at The Ottawa Hospital. “Diane is consistently encouraging her team and her students to develop their skills and take on difficult tasks with an open mind.”

The Ottawa Hospital team would like to congratulate Diane for such an honourable award. Diane has been an integral part of the healing process for many people affected by cancer who need to learn new skills and adapt to life changes. She has made a remarkable impact on the lives of many and will continue to do so in the future.
