The Ottawa Hospital’s Salary Disclosure for 2010

March 31, 2011 – The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) today released its annual salary disclosure for employees earning more than $100,000 per year. The list includes 292 people from TOH, 60 fewer than last year, representing a decrease of 17%.

TOH is entering the third year of a senior management salary freeze, which predates the 2010 budget and the Public Sector Compensation Restraint to Protect Public Services Act by one year. Virtually the entire senior management group – including the CEO – reported smaller earnings in 2010 than in 2009.

This year’s disclosure reveals the wide variety of jobs that can lead to rewarding careers in healthcare.

Two thirds of the individuals on the list are frontline healthcare providers. 51 Registered Nurses are on the list, representing the single largest group of employees earning more than $100,000 at TOH. The list also includes pathologists, psychologists, physicists, scientists, pharmacists and other health professionals.

One third of this list is composed of Management (Vice-Presidents, Clinical Directors, Medical Directors, Directors and Managers), most of whom perform clinical roles.

Compensation for the management group is established based on industry surveys that ensure staff are compensated appropriately, though by no means as much as the province’s leaders.

The Board of Governors establishes the CEO’s pay based on a salary survey and report by a third-party expert in the field. 25% of compensation is at risk, based on performance indicators monitored by the Board.
