The Ottawa Hospital CEO Dr. Jack Kitts will be appointed to the Order of Canada

Dr. Jack Kitts

On behalf of The Ottawa Hospital’s Board of Governors and the entire family at The Ottawa Hospital, I would like to congratulate Dr. Jack Kitts, following the announcement by the Governor General of Canada that he will be appointed to the Order of Canada.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette announced today at Rideau Hall that Dr. Kitts will be named to the Order of Canada for his “…distinguished career as an anesthesiologist and health-care leader. As President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital for nearly 20 years, he has guided one of Canada’s largest teaching and research hospitals, developing and implementing unique patient-centred care. He has also been influential in creating a more integrated health-care system in Ontario. A leader among colleagues and a mentor to young physicians, he is widely recognized as a champion of better health practices across the country.”

The motto of the Order of Canada is “they desire a better country.” While most of us have known Dr. Kitts as the CEO, today’s announcement shines a light on the work he has done over many decades to improve health-care delivery and health-care outcomes for our health system in Ottawa and across Canada.

Almost 700 people have been recognized by the Governor General over the past 50 years for their contributions to health care. Dr. Kitts joins this inspirational group of people who, through their passion and dedication, have made health care their life’s work.

Please join me in wishing Dr. Kitts our heartfelt congratulations on being recognized for his service to our country.

Katherine Cotton, Chair
Board of Governors
