January 17, 2012 –  The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre at the General Campus is celebrating the grand opening of the new CANVent facility.

CANVent is Canadian Alternatives in Non-invasive Ventilation, an innovative program that helps keep patients at higher risk of developing serious complications from simple upper respiratory tract infections out of hospital. Patients with neuromuscular disorders like ALS or multiple sclerosis, and thoracic diseases like Kyphoscoliosis, can get teaching and support to manage their respiratory care at home. This enhances quality of life, and can reduce hospital admissions or surgical interventions.

This program is unique to The Ottawa Hospital, with patients coming from as far as Toronto to receive care at the CANVent facility.
