The division of Respirology at The Ottawa Hospital is actively engaged in clinical research in order to study how to improve care and outcomes for patients affected by respiratory diseases.

The division has many active researchers who hold grants from agencies such as the Canadian Institute of Health Research, the Ontario Thoracic Society, the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and others.

Members of the division regularly publish the results of their research studies in peer-reviewed journals, and are also active in enrolling patients into clinical trials.

The aim of the division of Respirology is to achieve excellence in research so that we can improve care delivered to our patients.

Specific research interests of some of the divisional members include:

Dr. Shawn Aaron: Clinical research in COPD (chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Cystic fibrosis. Asthma.

Dr. Gonzalo G. Alvarez: International health. Tuberculosis.

Dr. Kayvan Amjadi: Interventional pulmonology.

Dr. Robert Dales: Population health research. Dr. Dales is investigating the influence of indoor and outdoor air quality on respiratory health.

Dr. Judy Leech: Obstructive/central sleep apnea and cardiac metabolism (PET scanning). Fetal monitoring in nocturnal polysomnograms.

Dr. Nha Voduc: Clinical cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Dr. Voduc studies the application of exercise testing for disease assessment and management.
