The Department of Medical Imaging provides a full range of imaging and therapeutic services to the Hospital and community.  The Department employs 480 staff members along with fellowship trained radiologists, neurologists, respirologists, nuclear medicine physicians and Otolaryngologist.  Our services are offered in both official languages.

The Department of Medical Imaging is one of the largest imaging departments in Canada performing 500,000 to 600,000 exams and seeing approximately 420,000 patient (visits) per year.  In addition to our clinical responsibilities, the Department is affiliated with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine program supporting its Radiology Residency Training Program.  The Department is also affiliated with various educational institutions providing clinical placement for Medical Radiation Technology students in Ultrasound, General Radiography, MRI and Nuclear Medicine.

Developing innovative and progressive imaging services stems from research.  Working with the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, our professional teams have initiated several research studies.  These activities are a key factor in understanding and providing better utilization of our imaging technology.

Making an Appointment

Referring physicians typically make the initial request for a diagnostic imaging procedure by submitting a requisition for a diagnostic procedure.  Upon receipt of a requisition, our booking offices will have the request reviewed to determine appropriateness and priority.  Once requests have been assessed, our booking offices will contact patients to schedule their appointments. Verbal instructions will be provided upon the scheduling of the appointment and confirm any preparation requirements (if necessary).  In cases where the appointment is booked 18 days or greater, written notices will be sent out.  Twenty-four and forty-eight hour reminders prior to scheduled appointments are provided.  Patients may call the booking office numbers listed below to confirm, reschedule or cancel appointments.
