Our Services

The Specialized Care Stream, offers services in the following areas:

  • Augmentative Communication and Writing Service Links to Augmentative Communication and Writing Service page
    This specialized team provides interdisciplinary services to adults who are unable to achieve functional communication (speaking, writing).  This may include individuals experiencing progressive loss of their ability to communicate due to a medical condition. The service offers individuals solutions that may include alphabet/picture boards, voice output communication devices and computers.
  • Driving Rehabilitation Service Links to Driving Rehabilitation Service page
    Since 1973, The Driving Rehabilitation Service has been providing driving evaluations to clients whose illness or disability may affect their ability to drive. Our occupational therapist assesses motorized-vehicle operation ability and determines if clients have the potential to improve from driver training. The Driving Rehabilitation Service also assists clients with adaptive driving equipment and altered driving techniques
  • Prosthetics and OrthoticsProsthetic Services
    Prosthetic services at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (TOHRC) offer a complete range of external prosthetic devices to limb amputees. We fit all levels of amputations for both children and adults, including myoelectric devices. Canadian-certified prosthetists fabricate and fit each custom device to the highest of standards, using up-to-date component technology and materials. We also service and repair prosthetic devices and components. Our facility offers a full selection of socks, sheaths, shrinker socks and suspension sleeves.
  • Orthotic Services Links to Orthotic Service page
    Orthotic Services at TOHRC specialize in providing custom orthotic devices (orthoses or braces) for individuals with orthopaedic and neurological disorders. Orthoses provide support and control to facilitate desired motion for improved function in daily activities.
  • Rehabilitation Engineering Links to Rehabilitation Engineering page
    Rehabilitation engineering is the application of engineering principles, science and technology to improve the quality of life for those with physical disabilities. Areas often addressed include mobility, communication, driving, independent living, and recreation.
  • Chiropody and Pedorthics
    The Chiropody and Pedorthics Clinic offers a variety of services related to the prevention, diagnosis and management of disorders of the foot and ankle, also known as chiropody, along with orthotic and footwear experts trained in the assessment of lower-limb anatomy and biomechanics (pedorthics).
