The Ottawa Hospital collects personal information from patients and employees under the authority of the Public Hospitals Act as well as the Health Insurance Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Child and Family Services Act etc.

Personal information is collected and used for a variety of reasons such as: patient care, quality assurance, teaching, employment and benefits and research.

Limiting use, disclosure, and retention of personal information

We treat personal information with the same care as we do personal health information. We take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected, remains confidential and is only accessed by those authorized to do so and for the purpose in which it was collected. Personal information is retained for a minimum of one year from the last date of use and then securely destroyed in accordance with FIPPA.

Right of Access and Correction

You can request to see the personal information that we have on file. You may also request that we update the information if you feel it is inaccurate or out-of-date.
