Dr. Jack Kitts was born and raised in Barry's Bay Ontario, a small town in the Ottawa Valley.
He received his medical doctorate from the University of Ottawa in 1980. After his internship at the University of Toronto,
he completed a three year tour as a Medical Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.
He then returned to the University of Ottawa where he completed specialty training in Anesthesia in 1987. He then
spent a year at the University of California in San Francisco as a Fellow in Anesthesia Research. In 1988 he joined the
medical staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital as an anesthesiologist and Research Director for the department. In 1992 he
led the development of the Preoperative Assessment clinic and became its first Medical Director. In 1995 he was
appointed as Chief of the Department of Anesthesia at the Civic Hospital and Associate Professor of Anesthesia at
the University of Ottawa.
In 1998, he became Vice President of Medical Affairs, where he led the Medical Staff in a merger of three hospitals
and five large programs into The Ottawa Hospital. He completed his Masters in Business Administration in 2001 and was
named President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital in February, 2002. Today, he is the CEO of one of Canada's largest
research hospitals and continues to practice anesthesia a few days per month.
Ex-officio governors are appointed for as long as they
hold the position in The Ottawa Hospital or other organization
that entitles them to a seat on the Board according to
the Administrative By-law. |
